Great Blue Heron
This adult great blue heron (2002 photograph) is one of twelve or more adult birds that spend the winter months in Stanley Park.

One of the interesting questions about Stanley Park's herons is how year resident birds organize their lives and more to the point, "How many, when and where do the birds establish their winter territories?"

On average, over the past 4 years, a single adult bird winters on Lost Lagoon. In 2006, two juveniles, likely born and raised in Stanley Park' herony, have remained on Lost Lagoon with one adult present on a regular basis (Oct and Nov)
On Nov 21, 2006, four adult herons found refuge from strong, gusting winds along the coast by perching in one of Lost Lagoon's mature weeping willows.
