Syrphid
The adults of many flower visiting insects, bumblebees, flies, and butterflies are ready to take advantage of the first warm days of Spring and food provided by early-blooming flowers. Willows or pussywillows, like this one, provide nectar and pollen are amongst the first of Stanley Park's plants to bloom in Spring.

Eristalis paddle-shaped antennae

The distinctive paddle-shaped antennae on the front of the head identify this insect as a True Fly in the order Diptera.

The body colour and pattern are a clever 'trick'. This insect is a honey bee mimic. She looks dangerous but being a fly and not a bee; she cannot sting.
